Dental implant: what exactly does it mean?
- In technical terms, the “screwed” part that replaces the root is called an implant (also called an artificial tooth root).
- This is what is called the intermediate element or head part, which connects the artificial tooth root to the crown.
- The dental prosthesis, i.e. the crown, is attached to the head.
Who is dental implantation recommended for?
Dental implants can be an ideal solution for anyone who wants to replace one or more missing teeth. However, for a successful implant, adequate bone and healthy gums are required.
So if you:
- you are missing a single tooth and want to avoid grinding down the adjacent teeth,
- in case of complete edentulism, you want a more stable, comfortable solution than the existing unstable removable prosthesis,
- you want to regain your natural smile and chewing ability,
then dental implants are often the best choice!
The personalized dental implant process in our office
There are no unpleasant surprises or unexpected costs with us. Let’s see what the steps of dental implantation are !
- The first step in personalized implantation is a complete assessment . In addition to examining the teeth, gums, and the face and oral cavity, we also take a CT scan . The results are evaluated with the assistance of an oral surgeon.
- We will listen to your ideas and needs , and your dentist will verbally explain the alternatives and suggestions.
- Based on the verbal consultation, we will develop a detailed written treatment plan and quote .
- If you accept the treatment plan, we will design the surgical template using the CT scans and the implant(s) can be placed within 2-3 days . The surgery is performed with modern local anesthesia, so the treatment is painless . Thanks to the surgical navigation template, the procedure usually takes no longer than half an hour, even in the case of all-on-4 implantation.
- There is no flap formation or sutures during the surgery, so only a control visit is required 7-10 days after the procedure, followed by a 3-6 month ossification period before the implants can be loaded with metal-ceramic or zirconium-ceramic dental restorations.
- Since the gum former and head are inserted at the time of implantation, after the ossification period, we only take an impression and match the color of the crown to your existing teeth .
- Once everything is ready, we place the crown on the head . All you have to do is smile freely again!
What implants are available in our clinic?
The implant technology and bone substitute materials available in our dentistry are based on the world-leading Nobel Biocare innovation: for the maximum satisfaction of our patients, we use the internationally recognized MultiNeo Nano System system, introduced in Hungary in the spring of 2023 , and the world-leading Nobel Biocare system. With us, implantation is completely personalized : before every surgical intervention , we digitally design the surgical navigation template for the patient using CAD/CAM technology , and the design of the dental prostheses is also done digitally in order to achieve the ideal head and crown with individual characteristics.
The material of the artificial tooth root
All our implants and heads are made of the purest (Grade 5 purity), high-quality titanium . This safe material is fully absorbed by the body, and the bone tissue grows into its recesses, created with special technology. It is an extremely light material that does not cause allergies and provides reliable support for decades. According to individual preference, it is also possible to implant a tooth root-shaped zirconium implant , which – due to its less favorable biomechanical properties – we only recommend to our patients with a confirmed titanium allergy.
Head material
The head part can also be made of titanium and zirconium. Both are high-quality materials: we usually make recommendations depending on the type of denture the patient chooses.
The material of the dental prosthesis (crown)
Our clinic offers the possibility of making metal ceramic and zirconia ceramic crowns. Both are aesthetic, durable and safe choices – zirconia ceramic, however, has some significant optical aesthetic advantages. Since its light transmission and refraction are the same as those of real teeth, it creates a completely natural effect. In addition, zirconia is a 100% metal-free, anti-allergenic material.
Bridge or implant?
This is the most common question our patients ask when replacing a tooth. Let’s take a closer look at the two options!
- During a traditional bridge replacement, the two healthy teeth next to the missing tooth are ground down (they will be the so-called “pillar” teeth) and the triple crown is fitted on top of them. Many people choose this solution because of its low cost and fear of more serious intervention – however, it has several disadvantages in the long term. In most cases, bone loss occurs at the site of tooth extraction, and the abutment teeth become less and less able to withstand the load. In the long term, tooth decay and inflammation develop under the abutment teeth: the abutment teeth often start to move, become uncomfortable, the bone at the root apex becomes inflamed and they often have to be extracted too.
- In contrast, dental implantation leaves healthy neighboring teeth unharmed! In addition to the fact that this procedure does not require grinding, bone loss is not expected. The implanted artificial tooth root loads the surrounding bone, thus strengthening the bone structure.
If you need to replace multiple teeth, especially missing teeth at the end of a row, that were located next to each other, an implant-supported bridge may be a good choice . In this case, the two implanted artificial tooth roots and their heads form the pillar – so 3 teeth are supported by two implants.

Dental implantation completely painless
We know that a trusting atmosphere reduces stress. That is why our dentists provide detailed information about every step and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
In addition, at Budapest Dentcare, we only use the most modern equipment, which also guarantees painless procedures.
You won’t even feel the anesthetic being administered, as we apply a special gel to the injection site beforehand. In addition, we use a much more modern agent than traditional Lidocaine, which acts faster, longer, and more strongly. Thanks to this, we can even perform multiple dental implants at the same time.
If you are very afraid or anxious before the procedure, we recommend our conscious sedation service. In this case, you will enter a state of drowsiness similar to light sleep, so all pain and fear can be completely excluded. We always consult with the patient about the possibility of using conscious sedation before the procedure.
How should you brush your teeth after dental implants?
For 3-5 days after the procedure, we give our patients a medicinal toothpaste containing ozone. Teeth should be brushed every day after meals, but at least twice a day, for at least 2 minutes, with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a special interdental brush or dental floss.
In the case of removable dentures, it is necessary to clean the implant with toothpaste and a denture brush after every meal. In addition, the denture should be kept clean at least twice a week with denture cleaning tablets. The entire implant and the soft areas around it should also be cleaned with a soft-bristled brush and toothpaste.
Our dental office provides all our implanted patients with BlueM fluoride-free ozone-containing medicated toothpaste, developed by Dutch oral surgeons specifically for post-implant healing. Proper dental care after dental implant placement is of utmost importance, as proper oral hygiene significantly influences healing and thus the durability of the implant. We always teach our patients how to use the necessary tools and the correct technique, and we also provide the necessary information in writing.
What other ways can I keep my implant clean and healthy?
- Interdental cleaning: Using dental floss or an interdental brush will help remove food debris and plaque from the areas between the implants. It is recommended to do this once a day.
- Antibacterial mouthwash: Using an antibacterial mouthwash, such as Listerine, reduces the number of bacteria in your mouth and helps prevent inflammation and infections. It is a good idea to rinse your mouth with it once or twice a day.
- Regular dental check-ups: Regular dental check-ups, at least once a year, are essential, as this is when the condition of the implants and oral hygiene are checked. The dentist can perform professional cleanings and advise on proper care techniques.
- Quit smoking: Smoking negatively affects the healing and long-term success of implants. To prolong the life of implants and maintain oral health, it is recommended to quit smoking.
- Healthy diet: A healthy diet contributes to oral health. Avoid excessive sugar consumption and eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, and protein.

Dental implant frequently asked questions
How painful is dental implantation?
According to our patients’ feedback, not at all. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, and special attention is paid to ensuring that the surgery is completely painless. Mild discomfort may occur during the ossification period after the implant is placed, but these are temporary and can be easily controlled
Will I have to cut off some of my healthy teeth?
Thanks to dental implant technology, this is not necessary, and your healthy teeth remain undamaged.
Will the denture look different from my other teeth?
Our specialists aim to ensure that the implanted tooth fits perfectly into the existing dentition. Therefore, we digitally design the shape of the crown based on an individual impression, and we also select the tooth shade in a personalized manner.
Screwed tooth prices: how much does a dental implant cost?
Just like our treatments, our price offer is also personalized. However, it can be said that if you choose a quality titanium implant and tooth neck, as well as a metal ceramic crown, the cost will not exceed 300,000 HUF!
What does a dental implant look like?
The dental implant used today is actually a screw-type tooth. It is made of titanium, which the body can fully absorb, ossifies directly with the jaw bone and does not cause any harmful reactions. The implant head is placed on the artificial root that is surgically implanted, which holds the tooth replacement.
How durable is a dental implant?
With proper oral hygiene and attention, as well as regular check-ups, you can enjoy the comfort and benefits of implants for decades.

Does age affect the rejection rate?
No. If you maintain proper oral hygiene and avoid smoking, the retention rate should not differ from that of younger patients. An implant behaves in the bony jawbone in the same way as your own teeth. With good oral hygiene, it can function for decades, but if neglected, inflammation develops in the gums and bone, just like with your own teeth.
Will I be able to chew the same way with implants?
Yes! Because dental restorations (crowns, bridges) placed on heads screwed into implants, but even removable restorations, are able to fully replace the function and aesthetics of the original teeth.
Can dental implants be used for everyone?
Dental implants are not suitable for everyone, but they are suitable in most cases. Even after severe periodontal disease, bone loss, or bone loss due to tooth loss. In such cases, bone grafting must be performed before the implant is placed.
I have my own teeth. Can I still have implants?
If there are no contraindications (e.g. heavy smoking or poor oral hygiene) and there is sufficient bone available in the place of the missing tooth, then yes.
When is implant placement not recommended?
Poor oral hygiene and heavy smoking increase the risk of rejection, so in such cases, implantation is not recommended. In addition, it cannot be performed in the presence of certain medical conditions. These include untreated diabetes, taking certain medications, previous radiation therapy, and blood clotting disorders. The main reasons for implantation failure are titanium allergy and genetic disorders of ossification, which occur in 6 out of 6 thousand. In our dental office – with the help of partner laboratories – we can screen for both conditions.
How long does it take to place an implant?
The entire process of dental implantation depends on individual characteristics, such as the condition of the bone tissue and the technology used.
In the case of one-step implantation, if the conditions are met and the patient requests it, a temporary dental prosthesis can be completed in just a few days with immediately loaded implants.
However, with a traditional procedure, 3-6 months of bone formation is required after implantation before the final denture can be attached. We use the most modern technologies in our dentistry to provide our patients with the fastest and safest solution possible.
